Top Ten Tuesday #5

This week is on the topic of rereading. It isn't something that I do very often, there are many books out there that I've read, and would gladly read again.....one day.

Top Ten Books I Want To Reread

1. The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins - This whole trilogy was amazing and, even though I don't reread too often, I know for a fact this one is a keeper and I will probably read them again before I watch the movie.

2. Hyperion by Dan Simmons - A classic scifi that just blew me away. I haven't read it since high school, so when I have the time, it's at the top of the list.

3. In Cold Blood by Truman Capote - The writing is so amazing that some people forget this is actually a nonfiction book. The only nonfiction that I would never question keeping around in case I get the urge to read it again.

4. Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman - Just downright funny and entertaining. Much as one would expect when combining the incredible imaginations of these two gentlemen.

5. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman - The fact that it is a standalone fantasy makes it an easier choice to want to read it again. Not to mention the fact that everything Gaiman touches is fantastic. See number 4.

6. The Catcher in The Rye by J.D. Salinger - I read this in high school and I know I missed out on a lot of the subtle nuance of this novel. I am pretty sure I enjoyed it, but my long term memory for entire novels is not so good.

7. Across the Universe by Beth Revis - I gave away my copy and regret it everyday. Eventually I will have to buy a new one.

8.. Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk - If you're a fan of this guy and haven't checked out Survivor yet. Do it!

9. Mythology by Edith Hamilton - Taking a mythology class in college was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I read through this collection and have been mildly obsessed with myths ever since. It's also a good reference book.

10. The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King - I didn't realize that he wrote fantasy, and at first I was skeptical but it was great. Another undaunting standalone fantasy book.

  1. The Eyes of the Dragon was my first Stephen King book. I know it's an odd choice for my first King, but I really enjoyed it. I still haven't gotten to any of his classics.

Across the Universe was one of my favorite books of 2011! I'll also be rereading it one day.

  2. Survivor is my favourite Palahniuk book, and I've read most of his others.

I've got Good Omens but I definitely need to read it soon.

  3. I had no idea that Stephen King wrote anything fantasy... that is too cool. I'll have to find a copy of that and read it. Thanks! :) I liked Across the Universe and probably would read it again before reading the sequel, but it reminded me a bit too much of Niven's Ringworld series, so while I love the plot, I likely won't reread it too soon.

  4. I need to reread Catcher in the Rye too, It has been so long since I read it and I would love to see how the book would affect me as an adult.

  5. Ohh... Mythology and The Eyes of the Dragon. I didn't think of those, but you are right, they are both superb books.

  6. with the exception of The Hunger Games, I've yet to read any of these books! (for shame!)

  7. Good Omens is fantastic - and I have to admit a secret hope for another Gaiman/Pratchett collaboration...

I've read a few of these, in fact - and I have to say they're great picks! I'd have to opt for anything by Guy Gavriel Kay myself - who generally writes tragic historical fantasy. However, he manages to make it so thematically poignant that it's completely irresistable.

  8. I just re-read Catcher for the same reason. yes I had missed a lot!

I'm a huge King fan but I have never read all of Eyes of The Dragon...but I will!! The Dark Tower series is another one along a similar, but twisted, vein :)

  9. I also love the "Hunger Games" trilogy and am particular impressed you included "Mythology," which is one of those books I've had on my bookshelf since I was 10. Brilliant book, thanks for including.

  10. I loved In Cold Blood and Good Omens! Nice choices for re-reading.

I had to read Mythology for a high school English class, and it was brilliant. It started my love of Greek mythology.

  11. Good Omens is a book I might reread and I don't reread much. I loved it so much when I first read it that I've often wondered if it would hold up to a second reading.

  12. The Hunger Games! Honestly, I cannot stop saying only good things about this series because I loved it so much (and devoured it so quickly that I surprised even myself).

And it's always nice to meet someone who loves mythology as much as I do. :)
